In love again?

Over the weekend, I picked up a copy of Tudor Roses, and I am inspired to become a better knitter. I think I will do Elizabeth I first of the collection, because I like it, and I am sure I will never find a pattern for Sand Dollar unless the book is reprinted.
I also really like Katherine of Aragon. I think that’s a bit ambitious of me now, EI is only one color, and a good place to start.
Now the question becomes, do I use the VY yarn and add stitches to the sides, or do I use a slightly larger yarn, and do different math to figure that out.
Time to get out the Vogue reference book and see what looks better. I wonder if using a larger yarn with the existing pattern would be very distorted, making a huge neck and wierd shoulders.
This is why I wonder if I should join a guild, to speak to folks who have experience in this kind of stuff.

Hi there! How exciting that you’re thinking about doing Elizabeth I. I think that using the VY yarn is a good idea. And I don’t think it would be a big deal to add a few stitches here and there. The only pattern to be concerned about is the little row of diamonds at the edging and for that all you have to do is be sure you have a multiple of eight stitches. I say, go for it! (And p.s., the neck on that sweater is already huge, I made mine 20 stitches smaller than the pattern called for, so you might want to do some math there anyway.)
Good luck with it! I’m looking forward to seeing what you decide and how it comes out.

Hey cool, thanks for letting me know. I haven’t seen any ‘actually made’ ones other than the one in the book! I have to admit, I haven’t been looking that hard, just making it around the knitblogger’s ring is hard enough without stopping to see all the finished stuff! Yours looks nice, did you leave out the cable in the back too? Hmm, that would help with any visible stra braps.
