Ball Bands

Does anyone out there have an opinion on whether or not you leave the ball band on your yarn as you knit? This is assuming it’s a skein or center pulled ball that would allow such a thing. I tend to leave them on, and I don’t know why, because inevitably the other end does come peeking out and gets in the way. I don’t know why I do it.
Just wondering.

For me it depends — if it is a center-pull skein, I usually leave the band on until the skein falls out of it. Otherwise, I take the band off and rewind the skein with my ball-winder. I lose more ball-bands that way… 😀

I usually take the ball band off and store it with the pattern. i tend to make photocopies of my patterns and keep them in those plastic page protectors in a 3-ring binder. So — in order to not lose the ball band, i usually flatten one of each color/type of yarn out, stack them, and insert them into the plastic protector.
    It’s worked great for me!
Now I’m hoping to get a palm pilot tungsten, then I can also keep track of info like that so I’ll always be prepared at the yarn store (heh, assuming I am ambitious enough to get the info in there in the first place).

I have a Handbase in my palm for my needles, but do I ever remember to update it? noooooo. Luckilly I am new at this so I don’t have to worry about duplicates too much.
