Here She Is

The straps still need some adjustment, and she’s a little damp, but I am overall very happy with how it turned out. Can you see the little peerie around the top? I’ve got her blocked sort of, while drying. Hopefully it will collapse in a pleasing way when not full. If not, I guess I can suffer the wet wool smell again and really block it around a box or something.

Love the colors! There is a pattern in KNITTERS STASH (Barbara Albright) called “Constant Companion” where an i-cord is somehow knitted around the top of the bag to add shape and strength. I haven’t had time to analyze the pattern but it is a nice looking tote. Another item to add to the “To Do” list.

I have seen that bag, and it’s nice. I wanted to sort of wing it on this one. I usually do the same with cooking, altering recipes even the first time I make them, and I wanted to see if I could do it with knitting as well. I am happy with the result, so I guess I can!

Oooo I was going to ask you what pattern you used for your bag. Did you make up this pattern? I love the shape and the colors. Very cool.

Well, I made really long straps with 7 stitch I-cord and flared out to 11 stitches flat at the bottom of the straps. For the bag, I cast on 60 stitches, did stockinette for 60 rows, and picked up 30 stitches on each side and 60 on the other end so that I am now working in the round, and just kept going til I ran out of yarn! I used 2 skeins of Chianti, almost 2 of Mauve Dust, and almost 2 of Victorian Pink. I just knit til I was bored of the color, then changed. You can’t tell by the picture, but the straps are really too long, I am going to have to adjust. But that’s what you do when you don’t have a pattern!
